This is a PCMCIA Card to Serial Port. This would be a great addition if you are having realtime connection issues or simply want to use your standard PCMCIA slot to connect your writer or to connect a judge or attorney.
Other Thoughts: Before getting this PCMCIA card, I used several USB-RS232 cables. All of them had occasional failures (probably due to timing issues). This PCMCIA card does not have these drawbacks; it is compatible with RS232 on a hardware level.
Bottomline: This PCMCIA card is (much) more reliable than an USB-RS232 converter. If you have occasional trouble with an USB-RS232 cable, try this card.
