About Margie Wakeman Wells

Margie Wakeman Wells is one of the court reporting profession’s leading authorities on grammar, punctuation, spelling, word pairs, proofreading, and transcript production. She holds a BA from the University of California, Santa Barbara, completed graduate work in education and linguistics at UCLA, and is certified as a CRI, Court Reporting Instructor.

Her teaching career spans decades, including high school Spanish, Peace Corps training, community education, and court reporting instruction beginning in 1976. She has taught everything from theory and speedbuilding to advanced English skills, and she later founded Margie Holds Court, an online school and resource hub for reporters, students, scopists, proofreaders, and English-focused transcript professionals.

Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation reflects Margie’s specialty: explaining punctuation in the context of spoken language, testimony, Q&A, interruptions, fragments, and the everyday realities of transcript work.
