Intro to Steno – Student Rental Program

As part of StenoWorks’ commitment to supporting the next generation of court reporters, we provide refurbished steno writers to as many students as possible through our Intro to Steno Rental Program. This is a limited-availability program for students enrolled in approved A-Z and introductory steno courses. Rentals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis with the Basic A-Z rental only costing you $145.00 if it returned undamaged and on time.

Before renting, we strongly recommend confirming with your A-Z instructor which writer features are required for your specific course. For most Intro to Steno programs, our Basic A-Z Rental is more than sufficient. However, optional upgrades are available for programs that require scrolling or realtime connectivity.

Available Rental Options

1. Basic A-Z Rental (Standard for Most Courses)

A diskless steno machine with an LCD screen that displays up to 5 lines of steno as you write. Ideal for A-Z and Intro to Steno courses. Not compatible with regular court reporting programs.

2. Scrolling Feature – Project Steno Upgrade

A Basic A-Z machine plus a disk installed, allowing students to scroll up and down through multiple lines of steno – a requirement in some A-Z programs.

Models include:

• ProCAT Flash
• Stentura 6000 (v4.0) / 6000LX
• Stentura 8000 (v4.0) / 8000LX

3. Realtime Connection Upgrade

A machine configured for realtime output to a computer, allowing steno to display on a laptop screen (steno or English translation depending on software). Includes the necessary realtime cable and USB adapter.

A free CAT software download is included (Plover, limited support).

Rental Pricing

• $50 for the first 8 weeks Date is adjusted for 8 weeks when the item is delivered.
• Then $50 per month thereafter (month-to-month)

These packages are designed only for A-Z / Intro to Steno classes and are not intended for regular accredited court reporting programs.

Charges & Policies

Initial Costs

• $50 rental fee (plus FL sales tax where applicable) billed to your credit or debit card.
• $100 refundable deposit – refunded minus a $25 restocking fee when the writer is returned in the same condition.
• $70 shipping fee – includes shipping to you and a prepaid return label (UPS).

Rental Timing

• The 8-week rental period begins when the writer is delivered, not when you place the order.
• After 8 weeks, the rental converts to a month-to-month term at $50/month until the writer is returned.
• Suggested order time is 2–3 weeks before class starts.

• Writer preparation time: 5–8 business days.
