Connect your compatible stenotype machine to a modern Windows computer with this convenient 6-foot USB-to-serial realtime cable. Designed for court reporters, captioners, CART providers, and court reporting students using compatible serial-equipped steno writers.

The cable features a built-in USB-to-serial converter, eliminating the need to purchase a separate USB adapter. Choose either a standard USB-A or newer USB-C connection to match your computer.

Driver Installation & Windows Compatibility

This cable uses an FTDI USB-to-serial chipset. On most Windows 10 and Windows 11 computers, the necessary driver installs automatically through Windows Update when the cable is connected and the computer has internet access.

If Windows does not recognize the cable, you may need to manually install the FTDI Virtual COM Port (VCP) driver.

After the driver is installed, Windows should recognize the cable as a serial COM port. Your CAT software may require configuration to use the assigned COM port and appropriate realtime communication settings.

Important Connection Information

The writer end of this cable features a 9-pin male DB9 RS-232 serial connector. Please verify that your steno writer has the appropriate connection before ordering.

Important: This is a 9-pin serial connection, not a 15-pin VGA video connection. It is not intended for machines requiring a direct USB-to-USB cable.
